Princess Beatrice's Little Bee Initiative . . .

May 18, 2011

The Philip Treacy hat worn by Prince Beatrice to the recent Royal Wedding has caused quite a stir around the world and social media (Facebook), as people have weighed in on the design and her choice to wear. Personally? Via individual expression, I say!

OK, so the criticism and humor run rampant. . . . I much prefer the humor and have to wonder whether the Princess' style choices were designed to play a joke of sorts on the public. . .

Regardless, I have respect for Prince Beatrice's recent decision to form "The Little Bee Initiative" to sell the hat on eBay in benefit of two children's charities, Children in Crisis & UNICEF.

"I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted. It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have."~ Princess Beatrice

"I've been surprised by the overwhelming response to 'the hat. I'm delighted, flattered and touched by HRH Princess Beatrice's decision to donate the hat to charity. I hope that people all over the world will be generous and that this hat will benefit many."~ Philip Treacy

Here is the link to the bidding page: Bid on Princess Beatrice's Philip Treacy hat.

After 60 bids the current winning price is GBP 18,400.00 (that's approximately $29,830.08 for those stateside). . . Quite a fancy sum of money to help some little ones who would probably love the hat too!

Have you noticed how the antennae and body of the bee logo looks very similar to the hat?

Sorry, I missed your comment, Mrs. J, until now. I haven't been attentive enough to the blog. I did notice the similarities between the logo and Prince Beatrice's Treacy hat. It was quite clever, wasn't it?!
