Melbourne Cup Fashion Photos - November, 2009

December 10, 2009

Australia's most major Thoroughbred horse race was first held in 1861. The prestigious Melbourne Cup race - winner's purse ~5.5 million US dollars - is not only known for its plush 3,200 meter track (just under 2 miles), but also for the high fashion of its attendants.

The friends of a Breeziway client held a Bachelorette party in her honor at this year's race, and we had the pleasure of designing a headpiece for her to wear with a deep orange and blue silk sun dress. Janel asked for a silk flower and feather headpiece in Chinese Red with matching birdcage veil. I would love to be able to share photos of Janel on her special day. (Janel, are you out there?) Moved by the fashion photos I just came across, however, I feel compelled to share the feedback photos taken during the creation of her design. Maybe we can add the 'real thing' sometime in the future.

Janel's piece makes a bold statement, but you will see by the photos below that bold fashion statements are the norm among Australian women. . . . and I love it! We have talked about arranging affliations with Australian retailers. I can't wait to travel there and explore other wonders of this distant continent.

And for the horse lovers among us, look at the form and style of this beauty. . .
