I am excited to learn that the production about Isabella Blow's fabulous, yet tragic life is taking concrete form. They keep teasing us with these press releases! Perhaps the project will take shape quickly after the release of the book biographies.

Sounds Like the Isabella Blow Biopic Involving John Galliano and Philip Treacy Really Is Happening

Filmmakers working on the movie about the late Isabella Blow's life have optioned the biography her ex-assistant Laura Goldstein Crowe wrote, Isabella Blow: A Life in Fashion, coming out November 9, to use as background. Swedish filmmaker Anders Palm is producing and hired Goldstein Crowe as a consultant; the screenplay for the project has already been written by Nicola Brighton and Max Newsom. Blow's friends milliner Philip Treacy and designer John Galliano are going to have some involvement with the movie, too, but it's unclear in what capacity, WWD reports. André Leon Talley previously reported that Galliano would play himself in the movie and made it sound like Treacy has some hand in picking out who will play Isabella. Talley said that Treacy had a "major new talent" in mind, but it's a good question: Who should play Isabella Blow onscreen?

GIRL ON FILM: The planned film about Isabella Blow is quietly taking shape: The Swedish filmmaker Anders Palm will be producing the film, and has recently optioned Lauren Goldstein Crowe’s upcoming book, “Isabella Blow: A Life in Fashion” (Thomas Dunne Books), and hired the author as a consultant. A screenplay has already been co-written by Max Newsom and Nicola Brighton, and the book will be used as background, according to Goldstein Crowe. Philip Treacy and John Galliano have both been linked to the project, although their exact roles have not yet been confirmed. Goldstein Crowe’s book will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 9, as will a separate book about the stylist, who committed suicide in 2007, penned by Blow’s widower, Detmar Blow, and Tom Sykes. — Samantha Conti

An Isabella Blow Biopic in the works. . .

May 31, 2010

One of my favorite designers, John Galliano, will be playing himself is a movie about Isabella Blow. The video below will help those of you unfamiliar with Isabella Blow to understand the potential this venture has to be a gripping illumination of a life that was characterized by great highs and lows. The life paths of recently deceased, Alexander McQueen, and Isabella Blow intersected in a profound way, which may have influenced the tragic end of each of their lives.

I hope the movie will be a respectful and sensitive human portrayal of the poignant relationship that may exist between creativity and angst. . . and an honest self-reflection of the character of the fashion industry (cf. Deborah Orr: Isabella Blow's death revealed the dark heart of the fashion industry).

Here's to a well-written screen-play of Isabella Blow's life, directed and acted with talent and compassion.
