Pantone - 2011 Color of the Year

December 9, 2010

We share Pantone's recent Press Release below that announces its 2011 color of the year, Honeysuckle. We are loving this choice and think our version in the Magnolia design pictured below would be a lovely complement to any of the Dessy bridesmaid gowns in this exciting and rich color. Keep in mind that we custom dye materials in our studio, so most any can be made for your wedding in this color!

Pantone Reveals Color of the Year for 2011:
PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle

Energizing Honeysuckle Lifts Spirits and Imparts Confidence to Meet Life's Ongoing Challenges

CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 9, 2010 – Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company (NASDAQ: XRIT), and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE® 18-2120 Honeysuckle, a vibrant, energetic hue, as the color of the year for 2011.

While the 2010 color of the year, PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise, served as an escape for many, Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.

“In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum.”

Eiseman continues, “The intensity of this festive reddish pink allures and engages. In fact, this color, not the sweet fragrance of the flower blossoms for which it was named, is what attracts hummingbirds to nectar. Honeysuckle may also bring a wave of nostalgia for its associated delicious scent reminiscent of the carefree days of spring and summer.”

Honeysuckle is guaranteed to produce a healthy glow when worn by both men and women. It's a striking, eye-catching hue that works well for day and night in women's apparel, accessories and cosmetics, and in men's ties, shirts and sportswear. Add a lively flair to interior spaces with Honeysuckle patterned pillows, bedspreads, small appliances and tabletop accessories. Looking for an inexpensive way to perk up your home? Paint a wall in Honeysuckle for a dynamic burst of energy in the family room, kitchen or hallway.

Spirit-lifting, vibrant, festive, alluring, engaging,
confidence-building, dynamic, courage-building. . .
sounds and looks good to us!!

Best to all,

PANTONE - Newsletter

July 8, 2010

For our color lovers, Pantone launches a newsletter for your viewing and pleasure. I especially appreciate the "White Hot" article; the absence of color associated with white canvas & fresh beginnings . . . I imagine that many of us can relate to this simile.

Welcome to TONES, the free quarterly newsletter from Pantone dedicated to color in its every expression: art and design, fashion and furnishings, culture and nature.

The importance of color in our daily lives cannot be over-stated. Color, with its unique ability to engage the eye, serves as a catalyst for emotion, creating magic and atmosphere. Color can relax you, leave you feeling contemplative, or excite, inciting feelings of energy and joy.

In the TONES newsletter you will track the latest color trends influencing the world of design, discover the many moods and meanings of colors, and find out what drives today’s leading color decision makers.

If you work or play with color – or simply love color for its own sake – you’ll want to take a closer look at TONES. Read it online now, and register to receive future issues directly. Please feel free to send feedback or suggestions to tones@pantone.com. We’d love to hear what you think and what you might like to read in future issues of Tones.

PANTONE's Fall 2010 Fashion Color Forecast

March 23, 2010

Pantone's Fashion Color Report for Fall, 2010 was released mid-February during New York Fashion Week. I have just successfully created a dye for Spring's Tomato Puree and already its time to think about the next season line. The top ten fashion colors for Fall, 2010 are shown below. Turquoise continues in the line-up in the form of Lagoon's slightly greener, rich hue. Gray, muted greens (one with more yellow and one more earthy) and coral (with more pink) live on as variants of the Spring, 2010 line-up. I *really* like the plum-toned, deep brown called Chocolate Truffle. I wonder how much the name has to do with this!

  • Endive -- Pantone 13-0632 (fresh yellow-green)
  • Golden Glow -- Pantone 15-1050 (warm and bold golden yellow)
  • Living Coral -- Pantone 16-1546 (bright pink-orange blend)
  • Lipstick Red -- Pantone 19-1764 (deep red)
  • Purple Orchid -- Pantone 18-3027 (bright purple)
  • Chocolate Truffle -- Pantone 19-1526 (deep brown with plum undertone)
  • Lagoon -- Pantone 16-5418 (tropical bluish-green)
  • Woodbine -- Pantone 18-0538 (earthy olive green)
  • Oyster Gray -- Pantone 14-1107 (soft gray neutral)
  • Rose Dust -- Pantone 14-1307 (pinkish-beige neutral

You heard it here . . .

"Fur and feathers, man, its a theme!" says Shenae Grimes after viewing the NYC Fashion Week runway shows for Fall, 2010.

I do love the reference to feathers, not sure about the fur.

Maybe I need to mention that our gorgeous
avian friends are not harmed for the purpose of creating Breeziway headpieces. . . We totally respect and appreciate their natural beauty, and like to think that our work in some way
honors their beauty.

Spring, 2010 Pantone Fashion Color Palette

December 5, 2009

I recently learned about the work of Pantone (North American headquarters in Carlstadt, New Jersey), the "world-renowned authority on color". They create color matching systems that standardize the communication of colors; enabling accurate recreation of colors from the design phase, to the manufacturer, retailer and customer. Pantone's Fashion Color Report for Spring, 2010 is now available, and a handy book mark provided by advertiser, Diana Komjati can be downloaded as well so you can slip it into your purse while shopping for your spring wardrobe. How sweet is that? Thanks, Diana!

My second great find this week is the visually-fun Red Carpet Awards blog; where readers can see the latest in designer apparel, the celebrities who wear them and vote for the best dressed each week. I have had so much fun at this site searching for the fresh colors in the Pantone spring palette. My favorite are below.

Turquoise . . .

Tomato Puree. . . .

Fusion Coral and Violet . . .

Fusion Coral & Amparo Blue . . .

Fusion Coral . . .
Tuscany. . .
Aurora. . .

Amparo Blue & Turquoise . . .

Pink Champagne & Eucalyptus. . .

Pink Champagne. . .

Dried Herb & Eucalyptus . . .

I am looking forward to creating the dye combinations that will transform our
beautiful feathers into these colors for Breeziway designs to complete these looks.

Here's to a colorful holiday season for us all,
