Royal Holiday Fascinators. . .

December 31, 2010

Now we don our gay apparel . . .

Jezebel.com shares photos of British royal women (sans Kate Middleton) in their holiday attire. Love the fascinator hats! Other sources say that Prince William was at work with his search and rescue crew in North Wales, as Kate enjoyed the Christmas holiday with her parents in Berkshire, England.

For a few minutes there, Sophie, Countess of Wessex got the Middleton treatment and her every thread was scrutinized. And I gotta say, the woman can wear a hat like no one else in the current extended family. A little 30s, a touch Tyrol, a lot of weird: royal perfection.

The bad news: we have no Kate Middleton for ya. The good news: her future cousins rock a hat. Indeed, I find myself wishing Princess Eugenie had kept the rest of it simpler to let the topper shine.

Ditto Beatrice. Plenty of us commoners would love a chance — hell, a mandate — to wear a jaunty hat: for our sake, make it count.
Why not create your own mandate to wear a jaunty hatinator?

Vogue - May, 2010

Top Hat with dramatic veiling by House of Dior - Vogue, May, 2010

The new (May, 2010) issue of Vogue features Sarah Jessica Parker on its cover and within. A video feature of her photo shoot for this issue (below) shows Sarah in a full-helmet double birdcage veil with small cocktail hat by Suzanne Couture Millinery. We have made similar styles for couture clients here and abroad. I love the the dramatic appearance of this style choice. Sarah also appears in a broad brim, wide-banded fedora by Rochas Hats complementing a Vera Wang dress. . . . so, 40's and 50's. . . I love the look of both!

Viva personal expression!

What's That? A HAT?!

February 18, 2010

Why do hats cause such a stir? What exactly do these young women "see through" in someone who enjoys a hat?! . . . confidence to express oneself as one pleases; a confidence that somehow threatens the less confident?

So sorry, the psychologist in me just cannot be contained tonight!

Keira Knightly is adorable wearing a hat or not!!

Here's a cheer to those how have the confidence

to express their style with vim and verve,

no matter what the 'critics' say. . .

Monique Lhuillier's Fedora - Spring RTW, 2010

December 23, 2009

I have been relaxing this evening with Style.com after a busy day and enjoying visuals of the Spring ready-to-wear collections of the usual line-up of designers. The house of Monique Lhuillier has topped off most of her collection with what looks to be a Panama fedora. The collection of gowns/dresses is fantastic, but I am not so sure what statement is meant by pairing the fedora with the cocktail dress, full-length gowns, and pert suit (could it be, "we just don't care"? or "we just don't know what to do"? or "the options available are just too few to bother"?).
I would love the chance to design real complements to these eye-catching options. . . . a new black and gold crystal, and feather design for the first two (imagining a design with a long stripped feather barb for the first), Lynelle with the suit and fetching black and white gown or a new black and white feather piece made of pheasant, and for the last two dresses that rock with the fedora - why not go with the sassy attitude of our peacock and black crystal fedora?

Why is it that relatively few designers give serious attention to our heads? Doesn't 'the seat of what makes us who we are' (spoken like a true neuroscientist) deserve as much attention as our torsos and feet?

Heather & Britney's Fedoras

November 21, 2009

Beautiful hairstyles dot com is a great site to explore for ideas. I spotted these photos of Heather Matarazzo and Britney Spears wearing black fedoras there. Hmmmmmm. . . seems their toppers could use a Breeziway touch, like our Czech Fedora with a shocking pink paper flower, black hackles and Russian veiling! Why not make a bolder fashion statement?

Wishing you many moments of bountiful boldness,

Polyvore!

September 4, 2009

One of my daughters introduced me to Polyvore recently. It took awhile to figure out how to use this new platform for creativity, marketing, community sharing, etc. . . . but the time was well spent. It has become a favorite pastime late at night when too tired to do much else. Does anyone else remember the Colorform Dress-up Sets of long ago? Polyvore is a contemporary, and as the Internet provides, limitless venue for creative expression that reminds me of that childhood play.

www.polyvore.com

Below are fashion sets, created using Polyvore, that were inspired by Breeziway designs.

The Marnie is one of our most popular designs; one of several Breeziway designs worn to Britain's Royal Ascot this past June. It is used to accessorize two very different looks in the set below.

Carolina has been worn by numerous brides worldwide in its original form as shown below, as well as variants with alternative silk flowers from our studio and different color themes using both natural and dyed feathers. I love the gown and accessories found on Polyvore to go with our basic ivory version of this design.

The Czech Fedora! So, much fun making these. . . . ;)

Best,
